Sensory integration disorders

When a child's brain struggles to sort sensory information, it can cause agitation, hypersensitivity, language or attention disorders. At Activate, we treat the cause with an integrated approach (GIGER MD, Tomatis method, micronutrition) to restore sensory integration durably.

When senses overflow: what if your child suffered from a sensory integration disorder?

Imagine an orchestra where each musician plays their own score... without a conductor. The result? Disorganized, stressful cacophony, difficult to follow. This is somewhat what a child experiences when their brain can't properly organize the sensory information they receive every day.

1. Sensory integration: our daily autopilot

From birth, our brain continuously receives signals from our five senses... but also from what we call "internal senses": balance (vestibular), body position (proprioception), or body signals (interoception). Sensory integration is this essential neurological process that sorts, organizes, filters and prioritizes this information to allow us to react appropriately to our environment.

It helps us to:

  • stand without falling,

  • stay focused despite ambient noise,

  • regulate our emotions,

  • react quickly if something hurts or scares us,

  • and even... understand others' intentions through their tone or gestures.

Every day, at school, at home or at daycare, this system is heavily solicited: noise, movements, light, emotions, social interactions... For most children, all this integrates without them having to think about it. But for others, it's a completely different story.

2. When the brain no longer filters: recognizing signs of a disorder

When sensory integration doesn't work well, the child may react excessively... or not at all to stimuli. It's not a whim: it's neurological.

Here are some warning signs:

➤ In case of hypersensitivity:

  • Startles at the slightest noise.

  • Hates certain textures (clothes, food, materials).

  • Avoids motor games or physical contact.

➤ In case of hyposensitivity:

  • Doesn't feel pain or bumps into things without reacting.

  • Seeks strong sensations (swings, throws themselves on the floor).

  • Seems "elsewhere", not very attentive to surroundings.

➤ Other frequent signs:

  • Difficulty coordinating movements.

  • Explosive behaviors, "unexplained" crises.

  • Language or learning delays.

  • Poor sleep, anxiety, need for control.

Often, these children are labeled as "turbulent", "slow", "immature"... when they're constantly struggling to understand and organize the world bombarding them with sensory information.

3. What conventional care offers

In case of suspected sensory integration disorder, we often offer:

sensory occupational therapy sessions: they help the child better tolerate or seek appropriate stimulations, with adapted games.

environmental adaptations: noise-canceling headphones, tagless clothing, adapted classrooms.

These approaches can provide relief... but don't treat the cause of the disorder. And when these difficulties accompany ADD or ADHD, the classic reflex is sometimes to prescribe medication.

But is this really the right solution?

4. At Activate, we discovered another path

At the Activate center in Geneva, we observed that sensory integration disorders are almost always present in children with ADD or ADHD – whether diagnosed or not.

To respond to parents' demand, we developed a non-invasive and integrated protocol that allows restoring good sensory integration in just 3 months.

This protocol combines three powerful pillars:

🔁 GIGER MD®: reprogramming the brain through movement

Thanks to an innovative Swiss machine, the child performs thousands of rhythmic cross movements in a few minutes that reactivate coordination between motor, cognitive and emotional centers. Result: better posture, less agitation, more concentration.

🎧 Audio-psycho-phonology: harmonizing sensory channels

With a special headset, the child listens to filtered and modulated music that acts directly on the brain's auditory and sensory connections. They calm down, regulate emotions better, become more attentive... without conscious effort.

🌱 Targeted micronutrition: nourishing connections

We assess frequent deficiencies (magnesium, omega-3, iron, B vitamins...) that disrupt neurological regulation. Precise supplementation supports attention, mood and learning.

Concrete and lasting results

Here, we're not talking about compensation: it's a true deep reprogramming of sensory networks that is established. The child gains stability, confidence, autonomy. And parents rediscover a more available, more serene child.

5. What if you talked with us about it?

Does your child show some of the mentioned signs? Do you have the intuition that they "pick up too much" or "not enough" of what's happening around them? You don't want to go directly to medication?

We offer you a free and non-binding consultation session with Julien Frère, our specialist in sensory integration and neurodevelopment.
